But in the wrong hands, knowledge can be dangerous, especially if it's used by the overzealous to misrepresent the truth in the name of a good cause. Education is not only a one-way ticket out of sheltered life on the mountain for Miri, it's a chance to study and learn about the world, help other people, light up her brain, and ultimately make things better for her community. Miri is a complicated, headstrong heroine, and, in every new experience she faces, Hale excels at giving readers unexpected depth. Shannon Hale's PALACE OF STONE is a masterfully complex tale that subverts everything you expect from a princess adventure.

Parker saw the possibility and promise, the hopes and dreams of herself in this powerful painting of Michelle Obama. Then, Parker walks by Sherald’s portrait of Michelle Obama…and almost passes it. Parker Looks Up follows Parker, along with her baby sister and her mother, and her best friend Gia and Gia’s mother, as they walk the halls of a museum, seeing paintings of everyone and everything from George Washington Carver to Frida Kahlo, exotic flowers to graceful ballerinas. Inspired by this visit, Parker, and her mother, Jessica Curry, tell the story of a young girl and her family, whose trip to a museum becomes an extraordinary moment, in a moving picture book. When a nearby museum-goer snapped a photo of a mesmerized Parker, it became an internet sensation. She saw a queen -one with dynamic self-assurance, regality, beauty, and truth who captured this young girl’s imagination. When Parker Curry came face-to-face with Amy Sherald’s transcendent portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama at the National Portrait Gallery, she didn’t just see the First Lady of the United States. A visit to Washington, DC’s National Portrait Gallery forever alters Parker Curry’s young life when she views First Lady Michelle Obama’s portrait. 6/26/2023 0 Comments Radiance novel grace dravenDetails beyond just a trope, like a specific occupation or uncommon type of scene. An acceptable book request includes at least one of the following: Low-effort book requests will be removed. The town is prone to hurricane damage because of its location, but its historical sites have survived. The population of Orange, a midsize small town rooted in the lumber industry of the early 20th century, has about four times the number of residents as during the author’s childhood and youth. Interestingly, the children’s book that immortalized Janette Sebring Lowrey’s name was first published when she was 50 years old and the mother of one teenage son. Maybe the relaxed demeanor of her main character came from the author’s childhood enjoying the peaceful Sabine River setting, which offers families a boardwalk to stroll and several nearby attractions focused on the arts and local history. Who knew The Poky Little Puppy would set a record like that? Orange, on the Sabine River, which is the border between Texas and Louisiana, is the area where she grew up. This disorienting era has become known as the “Anthropocene,” a term you may have noticed popping up with increasing frequency of late. That’s what we didn’t, perhaps, understand: that there would be no before and after to catastrophic climate change, that the dystopian could be so cozy with the quotidian. As Al Gore is fond of saying, “Every night on the television news is like a nature hike through the Book of Revelation.” And yet, for those of us watching from the comfort of our climate-controlled living rooms, these extremes and calamities coexist surreally with ordinary life. In California, the future has arrived in the form of desiccated land, 100-degree autumn days, and freakish fires that burned more than 300,000 acres in 2015. 6/25/2023 0 Comments To kill a kingdom descriptionIt’s kind of like a Little Mermaid retelling but a little bit more badass if you will. Now, two weeks before her birthday she takes the heart of a prince that she wasn’t supposed to and her mom to punish her takes her “singing voice” away and gives her legs and tell her that if she wants to come back she needs to take a prince’s heart without her powers.
